Recently, I’ve been spending more time going on walks, shooting aimlessly, just to see what I come up with. I guess you could say I’m extending my portfolio, really, I’m just doing it to stay shooting constantly, if I get some great photos out of it, so be it. Seeing the photo gigs have slowed up, I’ve been assigning myself side projects. These are a few photos I took while walking through Maymont Park. I go through there pretty often, its an escape from the city, and only a few blocks from my doorstep. More and more, I find myself going here, just to wander, and clear my hear.

I’ve had a little more time on my hands lately because of the holiday (work has slowed down a little bit). So I wanted to take the opportunity to look through and edit some photos that I enjoyed, but didn’t have the time for. This is a still life I had taken of an orchid sitting on a table on my back porch. The setup was pretty easy, I used a tabletop and covered it with slate that I had sitting around my backyard. I really liked the way the sun was creating this natural arch which I used to frame up the blooms. It was mostly shot with natural light but used an SB-600 on camera right to soften the shadows a little bit. At the same time, I wanted to keep some of the shadows because I felt they added some interest and depth to the photo. Color-wise, I wanted to keep the colors a little desaturated, but also warm to give that late afternoon feeling. Thats about all I have for now, but I plan to post more photos up in the future, I want to keep myself motivated to try and post up a photo every day or so. That way I’m constantly editing, even if just a little. Let me know what you think, enjoy.
